The Japanese Connection: Orchid Friend

New Orchids ----- a popular Japanese Orchids Magazine.
Issues 135,136 & 140 ----- each has an article on some major wild orchids found in
and around the District of Cameron Highlands,Malaysia.
Pictures of these species are mostly taken from my garden -----Tan's Camellia Garden.
For the record, Mr. Iio is the writer from Nagoya Orchid Society.

Mr.Iio is a Orchid Man from Japan......
He is energetic,he is kind;
He shares his knowledge, his experiences;
Asli Villagers and children know his generousity ;
and enjoy his companion......

If I really have a sincere Orchid Friend ,even from around the world,
Mr Iio is the sole winner.

I treat him with some local dishes;
Show him the very spot where rare orchid is (not are) to be found;
And the trails seclusive and well conserved.....

There is neither business deal,
Nor a bargain on orchid shape;
(he even brough me Sapporo Draft Beer,yes! all the way ...)
Just good Orchid-Exchange. ( if you know what me meant)

Bulb.uniflorum is loosing its ground (home)

the orchid: bulbophyllum uniflorum

its homeground: a ridge covering approx.10 hectars of land.
location : starting from the steam which leads to the foothill joining the famous jungle track #10.
the story:
this is a destroyed orchid trail I once enjoyed !
this more or less rectangular ridge used to have a small track running through
its centre,gentlely sloping upward toward the foothill where stiff jungle walk #10 begins.

scattered around this very ridge is actually the ideal locale for this particular orchid ,bulb.uniflorum.
It creeps on the ground or foot of small tree or shrub.
once it climbs up the branches or trunk, the leaves grow much faster and larger
which then have every possibility to flower.

usually,this bulbo is greenish yellow in color,with a pink lip. It turns more yellow with more exposure to sunlight. Quite a pretty orchid.

today, the ridge is long gone.it was being bulldozed and flattened to "house the 4 storied apartment blocks"

It is very hard to find another uniflorum around that area even though I have
saved a few plants in my collection many years ago.

interesting orchid story:

there is a road corner.
there is a stream underneath it.
an indian temple stood beside the stream down the corner.
guess what ?
ther is a big clump of orchid,
called gramatophyllum,or just TIGER ORCHID,
hanging on a big branch,on a tall dying tree,
which grown right on the temple....
